Meet The Crew

This is my family! It’s made up of my husband, our two cats, and one dog. Read on to find out what makes each of them special.

The Hubby: RYAN

Ryan on the Ruins

My wonderfully adoring husband, Ryan, is a pretty awesome guy. Most people who know us would say he is the total opposite of me. In the beginning, they were right. However, after four years of dating and a year of marriage, we have become one and the same. He is reserved, straight forward, ambitious, adventurous, and always on the hunt for his next great challenge. If I were asked to list his top three favorite things, it would go a little something like this:

  • Traveling
  • Craft beer
  • Pushing his limits

When he isn’t working hard in his professional career you will most likely find him logging miles training for his next ultra-marathon. What’s an ultra-marathon? An ultra-marathon, or ultra for short , is any race over 26.2 miles. Which means anything from 26.3 to over 200 miles. Ryan’s usual choice is around 40 – 50 miles. But I am pretty sure his favorites are the multi-day stage races totaling 100 miles or more. Now, why in the world would you want to run that long? I ask myself that all the time. I like to think it’s because nearly all of these races will guarantee my crazy husband the opportunity to kill at least two birds with one stone.  A lot of the races are held in places all around the country and even internationally. A race is the perfect excuse to travel (His last race was in China on the Great Wall!) I don’t know about you; but, when we travel, we love to get a good taste of the region/area. This means trying new foods and craft beers! Lastly, he can bank on having the chance to push his limits, be it physically or mentally. When it comes to these kinds of races, I don’t know if a person could ever get used to the beating your body takes. Is it crazy? Heck yes; but, its what he loves. So I support him one hundred percent!

Our Kids: All of our children are fur babies (for now 😉 )!

The Oldest: CHEETAH

This is Cheetah, our 8-year-old 14 pound DSH orange tabby who actually thinks he is a dog. He loves affection, getting and giving it! This guy is most certainly a lover and not a fighter. This can be to his disadvantage when the puppy wants to play “fit the kitty’s whole head in my mouth” with him. He has the tools; but, he just won’t use them. His favorite things to do are cuddling, curling up and sleeping under blankets, as well as stretching out awkwardly on his back to invite you to give him a quick little belly rub. As cute as his affection may be, it can be a bit smothering at times. Especially when you wake up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom and he insists on accompanying you and licking your feet while you pee! Or, when you return home from a short vacation away and he follows your every move through the house meowing every two seconds for an hour straight! Lol. He wants us to know he really missed us. Even though these things can be a bit annoying, he’s still a pretty awesome cat. Not to mention quite the photogenic gentleman. Check out more photos of Cheetah and his adorable shenanigans here.

All Hail Your Highness: CRICKET

20150113_212402
Next oldest in line is our 6-year-old grey and white DSH. Now, Cricket is more like your typical run of the mill feline. You know, loves you when it’s wet food time and wants nothing to do with you any other time of the day! Hahaha. On top of that, she’s a bit of a diva. I think she truly believes she runs this house. And, you know what? Sometimes, I think she might. As you can see, she is just the sweetest looking thing you ever did lay eyes on, with her mustache and mittens. Unfortunately, the attitude doesn’t always match the sweet little face. But, she’s getting better. More so, since our new addition to the family. A bit jealous, much?? She has been much more affectionate towards everyone (minus the high energy, 46-pound new addition) and, I can’t say I don’t love it!

A good photo of this one is very few and far in between. Even though she’s a diva, she really doesn’t like having her picture taken. You can find examples of some of those rare occasions of this royal diva here.

The New Addition: ROGUE

Rogue is our first pet together as a married couple. Before we met and got married, cheetah belonged to Ryan; and, Cricket was my wonderful ball of fur. So, Rogue is literally like our baby, a test run as many of our friends and family have so aptly pointed out. We both get to share in the joys of watching this sweet little pup grow up.
Rogue is a German Shepherd/Australian Cattle Dog mix we rescued through a wonderful group called R.U.F.F. ( Rescue Ur Forever Friend). She was about 8 weeks old when we got her and the cutest little 7-pound fluff ball on the planet. I’m totally not biased or anything!! LoL. But, really, look at her. This one definitely goes in the category of cuteness overload!

Now she’s losing her puppy coat and starting to really find herself. She has an extremely strong-willed, bull-headed, stubborn personality, meaning she can be quite “attitudy” (yes, I’m going to pretend like that’s a real word) and hard of hearing at times; but, she is also very smart, enjoys being outdoors, is an excellent swimmer, fetcher, loves giving kisses, and getting belly rubs. Little did we know we would be dead on the money with the name! One of the definitions for Rogue from the on-line version of the Merriam-Webster dictionary is, “a man who causes trouble in a playful way”. All they need to do now is change “man” to “dog” and add a picture of our dog beside it!

We actually settled on the name Rogue after realizing that it not only was a pretty badass name for a dog but that it also represented each of us in different ways! Me, I’m a lover of X-Men, and Rogue is my favorite female character of the series. She, by far, had the best powers of any one of the characters because she could have anyone’s powers she wanted! As for Ryan……he loves beer, so much so that our dining room has become a dedicated “beer museum” to all the beers he has tried since becoming of age to legally consume an alcoholic beverage. It just so happens that his favorite brewery is Rogue! It was a perfect match made in doggie-name heaven!

All in all, she is a great dog and we love going on walks and runs around our favorite lake as a cute little family, laughing at all her crazy antics, and having another warm body to cuddle with while hanging out on the couch at home. We couldn’t have asked for a better pup in the end. We are so glad we were personally paw picked to be her new family!

This is a more up-to-date picture of her. No more fluffy puppy fur or floppy ears, but still as cute as ever!

I can’t ever get enough of this lovable little pup! If you can’t either, here are more pix to satisfy your fix.
